High School Quiz

This year there are a lot more High School pupils leaving than previous years and so they are having to raise more money to fund their leavers meal. They have put together a Disney themed quiz that will cost £1. Tickets will be available from our school office for anyone wishing to take part and support the 6th Year students. A winner and 2 runners up will be drawn on the 15th March and they will receive prizes- 1st prize is a £25 voucher from Smyths Toys superstore.

Safer Internet Day

Today is Safer Internet Day. This year’s theme is “Together for a better internet”. Our digital leaders presented assembly on Wednesday and we explored our online identity, how to keep this safe and how to act appropriately online. Pupils will complete activities related to this during the week. P5-7 digital leaders will lead presentations within their own classes.

Pirates Practice

For practice this week, the Pirates cast tried some Mannequin Magic from The Drama Box and tied this in with their learning from Emotion Works as well as, considering some of the jobs in drama such as Actor and Director. They created different characters to act out and then directed them as to their facial, body sensations and behaviours. We had Shellfish the nervous rapper, Ivonatinkle the depressed space cadet and Jill the jealous plumber. We then used this to consider how our own characters would act in their scenes and had great fun in the process!

World Book Day – 5th March

We are really excited for World Book Day on Thursday 5th March. We will be celebrating the day with fancy dress, a competition, class buddying activities and other literacy related work within classes.

Optional Fancy Dress

  • Our fancy dress theme is simple this year – come dressed as your favourite book or film character. We would love to see some creative homemade costumes – there is no pressure to go out and buy anything for this.

Story Box Competition

  • Get creative and use a shoe box to create a scene from a book (fiction or non-fiction). It could be from your favourite book or from one of the books you are reading at school. Alongside your box, give a short summary or review of your book which will inspire others to read it. Entries will be judged on effort and creativity and winners will be chosen and announced in our World Book Day assembly. There will be certificates and prizes for our winners. (Please bring your story box into school on World Book Day.)
  • These will be judged in 3 categories – P1 & P2; P3 & P4 and P5-7. There will be one prize for the most creative story box in each category.

Sharing our Favourite Books Pupils are encouraged to bring in their favourite book, comic or magazine for World Book Day. This will be used during independent reading time and in some of our class activities.

We can’t wait for a great fun-filled book themed day!
