Barbara Henderson

Huge thanks to Barbara Henderson for an inspiring and entertaining author visit last month!

On Tuesday 26th November, P4-7 enjoyed a special author visit from Barbara Henderson. She started off by explaining the publishing process. She encouraged everyone to aim high and keep working towards your goals!

She then explained the historical research behind her latest novella, “Black Water.” It’s a historical adventure story all about smuggling and Rabbie Burns! She asked for P4-7 volunteers to play some of the main parts, and then all of us joined in, trying to smuggle goods without being caught. Everyone had a great time!

After her presentation, some of the pupils were able to purchase signed copies of all 4 of her books.

P1-3 Circuits

Unfotunately, we have had to cancel this after school club today. This will not run next week either due to the election preparations taking place. We hope to start this again after the Christmas break and thank Mrs Hickson for her time and efforts in running the club.

Lunch on 12th December

As our school will be closed on Thursday 12th December for the General Election, the Highland Council want to ensure that all pupils can have access to a meal for Thursday 12th December. We can offer this as a pre-order packed lunch option which would be taken home by pupils at the end of the school day on Wednesday 11th December.

The packed lunch offering will consist of:

  • Ham or cheese sandwich:
  • Piece of fruit
  • Traybake
  • Yoghurt
  • Water

(Some items may vary dependant on availability)

The catering service need the pre-order numbers by Friday, 6th December, to allow time for ordering the necessary stock for both food and packaging supplies. This service is available to all pupils, i.e those paying and those entitled to a free school meal.  The cost will be the normal price of a school meal at £2.30.

•             Packed lunches would have to be pre ordered – orders and payments to the relevant school kitchen by Friday, 6th December.

Parent/carers should be aware that once all packed lunches are collected and taken home/away, Highland Council will not accept further responsibility, it will be up to parents and carers to accept responsibility for the appropriate storage of the packed lunch in relation to food safety.

Please let the school office know by the morning of Friday, 6th December if you require a packed lunch for Thursday, 12th December.  To confirm, pre-ordered packed lunches would be made up and available for pupils to take home at the end of the school day on Wednesday 11th December.

Lights Switch On

We had a lovely turn out to switch our Christmas tree lights on on the village green today. Congratulations to Christa and Brianna who made hanging decorations and were chosen to press the button to light the tree up. A big thank you to Pat and Helen for organsing again this year and to Robert for providing some hot drinks.

Newsletter, Adverse Weather and Lights Switch On

Please see this month’s newsletter for the upcoming events and information. This winter’s adverse weather guidance was also issued with this. Both can be found in the ‘For Parents’ and ‘Newsletters’ section of the website.

Also, a reminder that we have our Christmas Lights switch on tonight at 6.30pm on the village green. Christa and Brianna were our ‘hanging decoration’ winners and will help to turn the lights on.

Congratulations

A huge well done to the Woodland Trust skills group who achieved our Silver Green Tree Schools award for their work outdoors including making bird feeders and reducing our carbon footprint.  This demonstrates some of the work we have been doing towards Sustainability.

Open Morning

We welcomed lots of parents to our open morning today.  Sincere apologies for the short notice.  When I always say,’ It was in the newsletter.’  This time it wasn’t but, I was glad that many of you were still able to join us.  We shared the new Family Learning site and parents were able to ask questions around it.  Each of the children’s committee groups shared excellent presentations on their work this year and plans for how they will continue to take it forward then, parents were able to join some of the work in the classroom.  Feedback was very positive and we appreciate the continued support of our parents.

Open Morning

A reminder that we have our open morning tomorrow, 29th November from 9-10am.  Parents are welcome to join us firstly in the hall to see the new Family Learning opportunities available and hear presentations from each of the pupil committee groups about their work this year.  Then, into classrooms to join in with some of the Literacy and Maths work taking place.  We look forward to seeing you tomorrow.
