May Day/New Challenge

A reminder that tomorrow, 8th May is a holiday to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of VE Day. While I’m sure this will not be the usual long weekend for children (all the days merging into one is quite a familiar feeling at the moment) I hope that everyone is able to enjoy some fun time and that the weather holds for a bit too. No work has been set for tomorrow and there is no need to register.

Following the Easter egg competition, I discussed with the teachers whether they thought you would all like another challenge. As it is the long weekend, I am going to set you a den building challenge. Send in your pictures to me at kerrie.laird@glenurquharthigh.org.uk of your dens. These can be made out of anything, be inside or outside – the only rule is you have to be able to fit inside. I’ll then put all the pictures together again and post them for everyone to see. Have fun everyone!

Easter Egg Competition

Apologies for the delay in passing on the results of this competition. A huge well done to everyone who took part. I’ve decided that everyone will get a prize. Hopefully the eggs in my office will not be a melted mess and these can be handed out. Don’t worry though, I’ll make sure everyone gets a treat for taking part.

Chess Club is back!

Kerrie Laird's avatarPrimary 7 ~ Miss Mullin and Mrs James

Starting tomorrow, Miss Mullin and Mr Crossland (volunteer) will be using ChessKid.com to run our after school chess club from 3pm-4pm every Tuesday.

Several pupils already have ChessKid.com accounts.

If your child would like to learn or improve their chess by joining our club, please send Miss Mullin an email at: Kirstine.Mullin@glenurquharthigh.org.uk and we’ll get you set up.

ChessKid.com will allow our pupils to learn at their own pace, whenever suits families, but also gives the option of fast, ‘live’ tournaments with our chess club. This week we’ll play whoever is online, but once we have our new members signed up we can try an online tournament, just for pupils at our school.

Parents, please see the safety features article and film clip below.

Kind regards,

Miss Mullin

Food and Drink Lockdown Challenge

See below for a great challenge which you may wish to take part in while at home.

FDF Scotland has designed a Lockdown Lunch Challenge to help young people, parents and their educators and carers better understand what our industry is all about, including; where our food ingredients come from, how they are produced and who is involved in making them. The Challenge will also help young people understand the skills needed to help them into a great career in food and drink.
